My Time With V.I.S.A.: Associate for Events, April 2007-December 2007
My time as a member of the V.I.S.A. Executive team member began in April 2007. At the time, I was appointed as Associate for Events, serving alongside the Executive Devender Kainth. V.I.S.A.’s Coordinator at the time was Mallika Padmanabhan, and the Assistant Coordinator was Anuja Thakar.
The first few months of my term were unproductive for V.I.S.A., as I was away from Windsor for the summer. But Devender and I kept in touch as best we could, to keep ourselves updated. After I returned in September, I assisted in the planning of the field trip for that semester to Niagara Falls, and with the Halloween pub night, “Spooktacular!”. In addition, I took the lead in organizing an event for the International Education Week for 2007.
Spooktacular Pub Night
This event helped raise over $2,600 in funds for V.I.S.A. at the fall 2007 Halloween Pub Night, October 26, 2007. The event was attended by over 800 students at the University of Windsor and was V.I.S.A.’s most successful fund raiser of all time. Coordinated on promoting the event on campus, coordinating the distribution of fliers, posters and other promotional items in the week leading up to the event.
Field Trip to Niagara Falls
I assisted in organizing V.I.S.A.’s annual field trip to Niagara Falls, November 3-4, 2007. This event was attended by 55 students from the University of Windsor. I coordinated the event as the member of the Events team present for the trip.
Celebrations Around the World
I assisted the Coordinator in organizing the International Education Week at the University of Windsor, November 14, 2007. To recognize this event, V.I.S.A. organized “Celebration Around the World”, a diversity awareness campaign highlighting the cultural celebrations of 11 selected countries from which some UWindsor students were attending. The countries selected were: Canada, Ireland, Germany, India, Japan, the United States, China, Ghana, Zambia, Sri Lanka and Brazil.
